Pandesal. Who would've thought something that we've taken for granted as our staple breakfast for many years would be so hard to make. Selling at 1php a piece, I guess I haven't really paid that much attention to it to anything more than as a lump of flour. However, being out of the country, it's bound to make one realize things that one has lost, or rather, things that has to be purchased at a much more expensive price. And so, I guess, that's why my father decided to try to make a pandesal this morning.
Unfortunately, it didn't turn out to be quite like what one would expect a pandesal would be: it looks like a small siopao (baozi, steamed bun) burnt on one side, but ironically light on the other side. It does not taste bad at all though, I have to say that it does kinda taste like the real pandesal (well either that or I was just starving this morning, LOL). Anyway, I guess over the appearance, over the taste, it's the effort that counts, right?
